THE BALKANS
THE POSITION OE BIJLGABIA STILL NO DEFINITE ACTION. times and stdnet sun services. (Received Sept. 8, S.O a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 7. A correspondent at Sofia states: “The moment is rapidly approaching when Roumania and Bulgaria will be compelled to make fateful decisions. Protracted hesitation is incompatible with the programme of the Allies, whose Turkish operations will necessarily affect the decisions. “It is taken here that the Allies have refrained from sending a Note to Bucharest simultaneously with those addressed to Athens and Nish. Should Bulgaria, in accordance with the Allies’ wishes, participate in the war against Turkey, Roumania will maintain friendly neutrality, but if Bulgaria yields to Germanic solicitations and attacks Serbia, Roumania will disapprove. “It seems inconceivable that Bulgaria will embark on the latter adventure, which would frustrate the Allies’ efforts to solve the Macedonian question in her favour and would also load to a renewal of the Balkan conflicts.” GERMAN INTRIGUE IN GREECE. MIS-STATEMENTS CORRECTED. TIMES AND STDNET SUN SERVICES. (Received Sept. S, 8.0 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 7. The Times’ correspondent at Athens states that a Germanophilo journal is campaigning against the Government’s foreign policy, maintaining that the recent Greco-Serbian Entente constitutes a renewal of the lapsed alliance and blaming M. Venezelos for exposing Greece to the danger of a conflict with Anstro-Germany, because if Bulgaria attacked Serbia, Greece will he obliged to aid her Ally. The correspondent points out that these criticisms are misleading, because the Greco-Serbian alliance never ceased. Moreover they do not account for Rouraauia’s part in the event of hostilities. Serbia has officially notified that the modification of the Greco-Serbian frontier exercises no influence on the alliance which is guaranteed by community of interests.
