The troopship Maunganui returned to Po<t Chalmers last week from Suez. The troops were safely landed at their destination without serious mishap, although upwards of 20 horses were lost. Tliis loss was small compared to that of the Aparima, that vessel being severely buffeted in the south-west monsoons and. losing about 80 horses. The Maungauui had an uneventful return trip. Captain Waugh, of the veterinary department, returned by the vessel, it in understood, to advise on the host type of horse and of horse-feed. The captain was on the Callipoli Peninsula, and saw the bombardment of the fort-ress-like Achi Baba. The Aparima is expected to reach Port Chalmers in about a fortnight. She will bring upwards of 100 troops, but the names of the men will not be published.
