TATAR AIM AKA.

FBOM OUB OWN COBIVESPONDBNT. . Juno 21.—Next to the war the weather proves tho most fruitful source of comment. Some openly denounce it, others simply mutter curses, not lend but deep. When matters reach their worst, they are generally supposed to mend, so wo must just live in hopes of enjoying normal weather conditions. Devoutly are wc wishing for a fine night on Thursday, 2-1 th in.st.. when the School Committee are holding a social and dance to celebrate the opening of our local school enlargement. The old saw says ‘‘Everything comes to those who wait,” and in this case those who waited fool very pleased indeed, with tho splendid work done by the board's overseer, Mr. Moore, and his staff. They have provided our children with a large, airy, sanitary school, of which they may bo proud, and in which our teachers will have full scope for tho exorcise of thoir teaching ability. In consideration of the innumerable rails made on every community at. present, tho committee have fixed the tickets for social, dance and supper at tho very modest sum of Is; ladies arc not asked to cook, and are only charged Is. and it is well worth ten shillings to fool that no one has anything to do but just get into one’s best hib and tucker, and mado a beeline for the school. Mr. Barnett has boon engaged to play at the dances, and to accompany songs, etc., so it goes without .saving that the music will leave noitiing to he desired. As showing the interest our boys take in the dear old school, one of them has donated, half-a-dozen teaspoons for use at socials, etc., so that there may be more than one spoon among tho crowd. All the host local talent has been requisitioned, and we trust, with better weather, to have a successful gathering. Tho unpropitions state of the elements did not prevent quite a largo number of old and new friends of Air. Sidney Gydo from assembling at tho residence of Air. Clyde, sen., in order to show their esteem and appreciation of his son’s pluck in deciding to leave for the front. Air. Smith, chairman of the local School Committee, and an old friend, in an appreciative speech,' presented “our boy” with a diamond locket, as a token of remembrance. And we all wish him a safe return to Tntaraimakn. Tataraimaka’s latest effort on behalf of the Belgians took tho form of a progressive euchre party given by Air. and Mrs. Key ATAllum. which proved a most successful and enjoyable function ; every one present enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Air. Dougherty won the gentlemen’s prize, and Miss Kathleen Dougherty won the ladies'. Tho Belgians benefited to the extent of £3 7s, ! which sum will supply a goodly number of dinners of bread and soup. We earnestly trust that by September the Hun will bo conspicuous by bis absence- from that heroic country. I hoar that the county's new engineer has been looking us up, and I should think, Air. Editor, that being a Scotchman and armed with a motorcar he ought to bo able to improve our roads greatly. T presume ho may have noticed that in this particular block one road is very much narrower than is the case in other portions of the road, hence tho greater danger of accidents, and (as the case of poor young McCormack showed) accidents occur hero which would bo almost impossible on a wel 1-lookod -a f ter road. The result of the latest ( election proves the fallacy of the trite saying “there is no public or political gratitude.” And I think, no matter what political shad© one affects, one must perforce fool gratified that the man who, years before tho advent of railroad or motor-car, toiled so terribly for his constituency, should havo at last reached his “desired haven.” At last the affairs of our local factory appear to havo reached tho stage of finality, and at a meeting of shareholders hold this afternoon at Oakura, Mr. Garner was appointed solo liquidator of tho company, and so, in > a short time, tho Oakura Co-operative Dairy Company will havo gone tho way of aft good anti bad companies,* and out of its ashes will arise, phtenix-like. tho new Patna Co-operative Cheese Company, whcili wo all hope will bo a complete success.
