FITZROY CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING.

Tho anunl meeting of tho Fitzroy Bowling Club was held at tho pavilion on Thursday evening, Mr. F. H. Jacksou (president) occupying the chair.

ANNUAL REPORT

Tho committoo in its annual report congratulated the club upon having had a fairly prosperous and very enjoyable season, Tho membership had boon practically stationary—about equal to that of tho previous season—-which was a record in this respect. .They felt sine tho advent of tho trams in the near future would have tho tendency to materially increase the membership. Tho improvements effected by the members last season by lowering tho footpaths, etc., had been very much appreciated. Unfortunately, tho croquet green, owing to the very dry season, was not available for May. but it bad received a good deal of attention and promised to be ready this coming season. Club matches aero played against St. John s, •Stratford, and ETtham Clubs, and in each instance Fitzroy was successful. .An all-day match was played at Inglewood on (loud Friday. As usual when playing at Inlcwood, those partaking had a specially good time. The kind invitation of Iho .Sirs Herd Club to play an all-day match on Faster Monday could nor be accepted because of the wet weather. Tho club champion i turned up in Air. H. Prico, who thoroughly deserved his win. having played a tine game all through the season. Tho runner-up, Mr, F. Bellringer, was to be congratulated on getting to the linal. us lie was comparatively a new player. Two teams from the club bool; part in the Wanganui tournament, one of which was runner-up for the championship. They offered their congratulations to tho West Kud Club for the great record put up by them last season both locally and at the W noganni tournament. The green warden, Mr S. Smith, had had the entire management of the green and had helped the committee very considerably in this connection. Me had also taken a Jot of interest in the Saturday players, with ! the result that those mqinbors who only played on Saturdays were very much hotter catered for than formerly. A word of prniso was duo to the caretaker for the good work done by him on tho green and tho grounds general!}’. Ihe financial position of the club was satisfactory. The balance in hand was about less than last year, hut this difference was more than accounted for by tho e aiirv of tho lease of the tennis ’ courts,‘which had been bringing m £2O • annually for .some years. the eom- : mittce offered tho deepest .sympathy of the elnh to Mr. and Mrs. T (!. Solo in the loss of their son. and to Mr. , Coxjioad in tho loss ol ins wile. In ; conclusion, tho committee placed on \ rocord its appreciation of tho good work done by the secretary. He had rendered verv valuable assistance to the club during the time he had held that office. The Chairman moved the adoption of the report and halanee-sheot. and said that, taking all things into consideration, the position of the elnh was a very satisfactory one. With the advent "of the trams he felt that there I would be a substantial increase m the membership, and with the increased revenue that would naturally follow they would be able to reduce a number of old outstanding liabilities. Air. J. Abbott seconded the motion. Mr. s'. J. Smilh commented on thr very satisfactory position nl the club. ’ and’ he also pointed out that next season their revenue would he substantially increased, because the croquet lawn would be available for play. Air. F. G. J. Hetlri nger referred fo tho standard of play which had liven maintained hv the club during the past season, and said that in this connection. too, they had every reason foi satisfaction. The report and balance-sheet wore j adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follows for the ensuing sen-son ;—President, Air. F. 11. Jackson; vice-presidents. Messrs. 1 E. Dingle, 0. Oxcnham, T. G. Sole. , and S. J. Smilh; secretary. Air. L. ! Chivcrs; auditor, Mr. C. S. Rennell; general committee. Messrs. Hrookor, G. Allen, S. J. Smith, H. Price, and E. ' Lister ; Saturday players will elect their own committee: sole selector (Thursday players). Air. E. Dingle; green warden, Air. S. J. Smith; croquet committee, Messrs. J. Abbott. Q. Oxenbarn, and E. Dingle, with Air. Oxenham as green warden; delegates to ccntio, Alessrs, Jackson and Smith. GENERAL, The Chairman tendered Ins thanks to tho committee and the members generally for the help They had given him during the nast year, as a result of which his duties had been made very light. . Tlio secretary was voter! an honorarinm of £5 ss. . It was decided that in future a deposit of 10s must accompany nomination for membership. Tho subscription was fixed at £- -s, tho same as last season. The .subscription for croquet members was fixed at 10s. Air. Abbott announced that ho, was presenting a full croquet *et to the chib.—Tho offer was acccptcu with thanks. Mr. Price offered the use of room for committee meetings, which was also accepted with thanks. Mr. Smith gave a donation of a guinea towards tho cost of the telephone.—A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr, Smith for his donation. It was decided that tho club should favour the competition for the banner being a challenge competition, three rinks to ho tho minimum. Mr, Bellringer gave notice to rescind the resolution passed at a special meeting favouring tho abolition of the two feet on the mat rule. ‘ Votes of 'thanks wore accorded to Mr, Abbott for the uso of his room, to the press, and to the ladies, and an expression of approval was recorded of the nnret.sdrer’s services
