SCHOOL AT VOGELTOWN.
• DEPUTATION TO EDUCATION BOARD. A Some time ago a request from the u , Taranaki Education Board for a grant )r for building a school at Vogeltown was hold over by the department owing to the financial stringency caused by the war. At the meeting of the board on Wednesday notice was received that at a j. meeting of householders held at Vogeltown, the following resolution was c carried: "That this meeting of Vogeltown householders urge upon the Eduj cation Board the urgent necessity of (I taking steps to establish ,a side school c, at Vogeltown up to the fourth stanl dard.” j A communication was received from e the trustees of the Vogeltown Sunday School, offering the use of the building for 10s weekly. i. In furtherance of the resolution car--1 ried at the meeting of householders, a £ deputation consisting of Messrs. G. W. Browne, G. W. Lawrence and W. L. s Gordge waited upon the board. Air. Browne said that a full-standard 1. school was urgently needed. Ho pointed out that a canvass had been | mafie, and this showed there were 9(1 j, children residing in the district, and of tuis number 51 would attend a school „ at Vogeltown. In connection with the land purchased by the board, for the , erection of the school, he suggested = that a committee of three be appointed I to look after tile ground and keep it in °tdor. ' Tlie Chairman pointed out it was not ; the fault of the board that rf grant had ' not been made. Mr. Browne said the deputation ' quite recognised that. In reply to a question, it was stated ' that the Vogeltown Methodist Sunday School would be very Suitable for a ' temporary school; it would accommo- - date from 50 to 60 pupils. It was stated that there was no fireplace in the building, but as electric light was installed it would be a simple - matter to put in a beater. The depuration then withdrew, i Air. Alortou thought the wishes of i the deputation should be complied ; with. It was a long way for the chil- > dreu to conic to the Central and i Courtenay Street schools, and he ad- ) located (Ik? establishment of a fulli standard school there temporarily, tm- ■ til such time as a grant should be ■ made for the erection of the original ■ school. ; In reply to a question. Air. Ballantync said the Alethodist Sunday School • was fairly suitable, and it would only 1 be a question of furnishing it. • Air. Alortou moved; "That steps be ' j taken to open a lull-standard school in the Alethodist Sunday School at A'ogeltown.” Air. Alasters seconded. The school i was certainly warranted, and the establishment of a temporary one would 1 not jeopardise the chances of securing the grant already asked for, but would, on the contrary, help the movement for a new school. The motion was carried. , Alessrs. Browne, Lawrence and Gordge were appointed a committee to take charge of the property already . bought by the board.
