VERY HEAVY FIGHTING IN FLANDERS.

TROOPS LANDED NEAR THE DARDANELLES. Russians Cain A Footing In Hungary. It was not to be expected that the Germans would make no reply to the British advance at Neuve Chapelle and tne capture of Hill 60, south of Ypres. The point they selected for their attack -was about half-way between Ypres and Dixmude. The places where fighting took place can he found in the map published today. The Germans are particularly fond of attacking the portion of the line where British and French troops meet because, unless the understanding between the Allies is perfect, trouble is likclj to ensue. On this occasion French and British troops, including the Canadians, were engaged. The Germans secured a partial success at first, over which all Germany is rejoicing, but e\idence points to the Allies having regained all, or nearly all, the positions lost. The attack on the Dardanelles has been a longer affair than was at first expected, but. with h rent h and British troops landed from the Gulf of Saros at the hack of tire Gallipoli peninsula progress should now be more rapid. The Russians now definitely claim that they hold a front of 40 miles on the southern side of the Carpathians, with two railway lines available to move troops. This should make it possible to clear the district further east, where Austro-German forces .are on both sides of the mountains.
