QUARTERLY MEETING IN NEW 1 PLYMOUTH. The New Plymouth Methodist Circuit quarterly meeting was ’held on Tuesday evening in the Whitelev Schoolroom. Tho Rev, A. B. Chappell, M.A., presided, a good attendance including representatives of the country places. Meinber.shij> returns were considered satisfactory, a slight decrease in junior membership being, more than balanced by additions to adult membership. The financial statement showed that the debit balance now stands in the neighbourhood of £4O, though the quarter’s income had exceeded mat of die previous quarter by about £B. After discussion, a committee was appointed to go into the whole question of circuit organisation, with a view to the improvement botii of the financial and spiritual position of the circuit, and re-' port to the next meeting. It was reported that Mr. A. Smart, who had recently taken preaching appointments in tho circuit, had. entered the home mission work at Urenui. Resolutions of condolence, with Mr. and Mrs. E. Bullot (Moturoa). and tho families of the late Mrs. Filler. Air. Rowo Fennell, and Air. Quickfnli, in bereavements sustained during the quarter,, were passed by a standing vote. Acknowledgments were made of felicitations and a presentation tendered to the Rev, IV. and Airs. Cannell on tho attainment of their golden wedding—an event which had aroused much sympathetic interest in the circuit. Air. J. R. Nelson was appointed reporter of circuit happenings to the Methodist Times. * ■ INGLEWOOD CHURCH. I

The anniversary services of the Inglewood Church were conducted last Sunday by tho Bcv. K. 0. Blamircs, of Hawcra. Good congregations listened eagerly to the eloquent utterances of the preacher at both services. On Monday evening Mr, Blamircs gave one of Jiis “popular recitals,” including Mr. Asquith’s great Imperial speech, after which the audience rose and feelingly sang “God Save the King.” Harold Begbio’s “Old Born Drunk” was also given with good effect. Several humorous sketches delighted old and young. Tho reports of tho various departments of the church showed that substantial progress had been made during the year. The trust income was ;tlO;5 and the expenditure £IOO. The weekly offerings showed an increase of £2O for tho year and a credit balance of £1 9s 4d. The church membership returns snowed twenty names added to tlio roll and twelve crcdcntiallocl to other circuits. The Bcv. J, Featherston, in giving a brief resume of the year’s work, thanked all .who had helped to such a measure of success. Special mention was made of the Ladies’ Guild and the service rendered by tho choir, while tlio Sunday school staff had to rejoice over a numerical increase of upwards of oO per cent, of scholars. The usual votes of thanks terminated a most successful anniversary.
