Mr. D. M’Kellnr, of Wellington, is in New Plymouth. The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. T. ,Hale Giles, and Mrs. Giles from Auckland, are staying at the Bungalow, Gilbert Street.
Mr. Lcs Hander.'of New Plymouth, has passed his final’engineering examination, and returned to New Zealand by the lonic last week. He cams on to Now Plymouth by the mail train oa Saturday evening. ' Friends in Stratford were ranch relieved to-ds.v (says Saturday’s Post) to hear direct from Or. A. Dillon Oarbery, who, it will be remembered, went to the front with the first field ambulance contingent of the British Expeditionary Force. Dr. Carhery is attached to the R.A.M.C., as Major,' and writing from a small village in .Franco (the entire remaining population of which appears to be women and wounded) intimates that, he is practically in charge of the place as chief of the medical staff there. The place was twice-at-tacked by the Germans, and the school, churches and other public buildings have been converted into temporary hospitals. Dr, Carbrey speaks in most glowing terms of the JBritish “Tommy his wonderful bravery and his quaint ways. At time of writing. Dr. Carbary was quite well and very much at home amongst- the French people.
