The New Zealand Racing Conference arbitrators appointed by the consent of the parties m the dispute as to the payment of 2o sovs. to tho breeder ol the winner of the Avondale Stakes in 1013 hare decided that _ the word "breeder’' is. in the case of the breeder of foals, clearly confined for all stud book and racing purposes to the owner of tho dam at- the time when , such foal was dropped. Under tho ■ circumstances the arbitrators further ; decide that there was no power for tho ' stewards or committee of the club to i | vary tho plain meaning of the word "breeder” as so used- and therefore direct that the sum allocated to tho breeder of Castalia be paid to Mr. 1'• Hall, who, it is admitted, purchased her dam prior to the day on which Castalia was foaled. | NATIONAL STEEPLES. i | ; I The Press Association's report of the race for the National Steeples on TucsI day states that running to tho first fence Jackman had. assumed the lead, with Tim Dooian following, while Fond Memory baulked, and lost Ids rider.
