WAITARA.

FROM OUR OWN COP.RESCONDP.Nr. March 26.-—The Chamber of Commerce has, through its secretary, written lo the Department of Agriculture* ashing for a more equitable arrangement for the carriage of lime for agricultural purposes. At present it is carried ou the State railways free for a distance of 100 miles, and over that distance farmers have to pay ordinary freight. The chamber asks that those living under the 100 miles shoul(l pay something so that those living over that distance should pay less than they now do. It was represented that tho cost per truck to /Waitara is £J over tho 100 miles free, and as Taranaki soil requires lime, tho cost of railage is a burden, when tho largo quantity that is required to lime a farm efficiently is taken into consideration. The Suffolk arrived in the roadstead this morning.
