A mental patient who was roaming in tho Motu district in a nude state with a gun and creating alarm was brought to town by the police and committed to Avondale. On tho journey the buggy capsized in a Hooded river and tho horses were swept away and drowned. Constable Williamson, who was entangled in the reins, had a narrow escape.
