BOXING.

AUCKLAND PERMIT CANCELLED, PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND. March 23. Twelve months ago it was announced that for Exhibition time six big boxing contests, each for £IOOO, would bo promoted. Tho Boxing Association was not financially in a position to undertake a programme so oig, ami it entered into a contract with a Mr. Doyle, who was to act as the association's agent, to find purses and share with tho association. Ho transferred Hs agreement with the association to a Mr. Mitchell. The latter paid Air. Doyle £250 and committed himself to a further expenditure of CIOO in arranging, through Tommy Burns, for engagements with M'Coy. Wells, Morey, Tlegarty, and Daniels. Tho New Zealand Boxing Council had been inclined at first to view with disfavour tho contract entered into, but .Mitchell- saw Mr. AUVilley. of that body, and pointed out that all the contests wero to ho absolutely controlled by the Northern Boxing Association, and with that explanation Mr. M'Villoy had been satisfied, and tho police permit for tho fights had been granted

Advice has now been received that tho police permit has been cancelled, and urgent representations on the subject ire no-v being made to the authorities in Wellington by Mr, Mitchell and by tho association, which says it cannot understand why tho cancellation has been ordered. Superintendent- Kiely. when seen on the subject, said that when the perni't was issued it was not known that the contract had been passed on from Doyle to others, and that several people were now concerned who were really interested in the proposed tourney from a money-making point of view. The cancellation of the permit, tho superintendent added, had been ordered fro .1 Wellington
