The magistrate described tho case as one of mediaeval barbarity. Referring to the case in the House of Lords, Lord Sei borne said ho wa-s informed that the children were wed fed. The mother vrns earning *J()s weekly and could not buy clothes to send tho children to school. She know that discovery meant prosecution for overcrowding and her separation from her children when they were found, if his information was true it was a most piteous case. The Archbishop of Canterbury contended that the law did not compel boards of guardians to break up homes.
