HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Feb. 16. Following is tlio High Commissioner’s market report under (late London, February 14 (Note: Unless otherwise specified, quotations are average market price on spot):—. Meat.—Generally on account of dull trade holders are accepting small reduction in prices, with the result that there is better demand for mutton and lamb. Mutton.—North Island per lb. 4fd, owes 4jd. Lamb.—Other than Canterbury 6id. Beef.—The market is sternly; New Zealand hinds 4Jd, fores 4d. Supplies of American chilled beef are large, with a good demand; hinds od, fores 4Jd. Butter. The market is quiet and prices slightly weaker for New Zealand, and the expected demand has not materialised. For Danish the market is quiet, per cwt. 120 sto 1235. The New Zealand market is quiet at 113 s to 116 s. Australian is in fair demand at 109 s to 112 s. The Argentine market is quiet at 110 s to 112 s. For Siberian tbci'o is fair demand at 110 s to 112 s. Cheese.— I The market is steady and prices well maintained, with fair demand for "New Zealand. The' market is firm for Canadian, owing- to the short supply - . Canadian white 68s to 70s to 725; New Zealand white 63s to C4s, coloured 60s to 665. Hemp.—The Manila market is easier; fair current is per ton £2B, -January to March shipment £2B ss. The output from Manila for the week was 23,000 bales The Now Zealand market is qui H with a tendency in favour of buyers. The Dominion offering is very small. Good fair £25 10s, fair £23 6s, January to March shipments about 5s more. Sisal.—The New York market is firm at laift quotations. T6w.—Better demand. The nominal value for third grade per ton is £lO 15s to £ll', other quotations the same as before. The stock at tho end of January was 1536 tons. Wool.—The market remains firm and good business has been done both in tops and yarn. Spinners are much better employed Hops.—Tho market is weaker and slightly lower, though the full supply has increased buying. English per cwt. 130 s to 160 s, American 90s to 120 s.

WOOL, SKIN, AND HIDES,

Mr. Newton King reports;—On Tuesday, February 10. I held my usual tour-weekly sale of above produce, the catalogue comprising 205 bales and 235 sacks wool, 2j39 sheepskins, 18 casks and 39 tins tallow, 613 hides, 421 calfskins, and tho usual assortment of hair, tails, etc. Tho attendance of buyers was good, and competition, with the exception of that for seedy lines of wool, was keen and spirited. Wool.—As shown above, there was a large catalogue. Good clean crossbred fleece was m keen demand, and advanced Id per lb. As is usual at this time of the* year, many of the hales, especially lambs’ wool, were showing plenty of seed and cotts, badly seedy being hard of sale. I sold one bale of fleebe at 7id, 3 at Bd, 61 at 81d, 78 at BJd, 4 at Sid, and 4 at 9d; Jambs’, 1 at sd, 3 at 6id, 15 at Bi-d, 5 at Bjd, and 2 at 9d. ■ Sheepskins.—An irregular market; full wool and lamb skins par to id higher, faulty' lines and rough polls id to Jd lower. Hides.—Ox at par with late rates, cow id to fd lower, yearlings id to id lower, farmers’ cow id to lid lower. Tallow.—Market easier, par to 5s lower.

Calfskins.—Season just about over; few offering; Id to 2d lower.
