THE NEW INQUIRY. ran press association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. The re-hearing of the inquiry into the wreck of the steamer Devon was commenced to-day before Mr. Justice Chapman, with Captains Waller and W. J. Newton as assessors. The court decided that Captain Cnunce should give his evidence independently, but tho statements of other witnessey/.at the previous inquiry should be read, and the witnesses examined further if necessary. The captain’s evidence added little to tile statements made previously.
