A filly by Desmond— Sisterlike realised 5600 guineas. ASHBURTON RACES. CONCLUDING DAY. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. ASHBURTON, September 12. The Ashburton spring meeting was concluded in bettor weather, though tho ground was very wet under foot. Results:— Second Hurdles.—Umeraboy 1, Stargo 2, Ribstono Pippin 3. All started. Won by four lengths. Fairfield Hack Handicap.—Nithsdale 1, Trireme and Dcbonaire (dead heat) 2. Won by two lengths. Coldstream Welter. —Gunfiash 1, Stamboul 2, Joan 3. Scratched: Glenowf and Slcrry Lass. Won by three lengths. Tinwald Handicap.—Martel 1, Tannhausor 2, Medallist 3. All started. Won by a head. Winchrnore Trot.—Treasure Seeker 1, Kelso 2, Evelyn 3. Won by six lengths. Maiden Hack Scurry.—Formal 1, Reval 2, Vanquish 3. Won by a neck. Farewell Handicap.—Orton 1, Sea King 2, Fonder 3. Also started: Spccialform and Carolus. Won by three lengths. The totalisator handled £0468 during the day, and for tho meeting £19,225, an increase of £4600 over the figures of last year.
A meeting of the committee of tho Egmont Racing Clnb was held on Thursday evening, Mr. R. H. Nolan presiding. There were also present, Messrs. Baker, W. Adamson, S. Adamson, jun., Gray, Foystor, Tonks, Crocker, R. Hicks, and A. Good. An apology for absence was received from Mr. A. W. Gillies. It was decided to vote £2O to tho EgmonL-Wanganoi Hunt Club. Two names were placed on the forfeit list. Tho sub-committec reported recommending that tho 1} milo and 7 furlong starting posts be altered so gs' to give a straight run. The suggestions were adopted, Tho committee also recommended that concrete steps bo erected in front of tho grandstand. These, with other suggested improvements, were left to the sub-committee with power to act. Mr. Nolan was appointed chairman of committee for tho ensuing year. It was decided to accent the oiler of Dustin’s, Ltd., for catering, subject to conditions to be drawn up. Mr. G. Morse was reappointed handicapper, Mr. W. H. Hartgill judge and clerk of scales, and Mr. C. O’Connor starter.—Star. . TURF NOTES. Whilst competing in tho Braemar Welter at the Ashburton Races on Thursday, Waitoto crossed his legs and came down, the favourite, Somniform, falling over him. Dooley, tho rider of tho latter, sustained a broken wnst, and will bo out of the saddle for some weeks. ,
