SWIMMING.

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The annual mooting of the New Plymouth Amateur Swimming Club was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening. There was an attendance of about twenty ladies ami men. .Mr. H. Stocker was elected to the chair. The balance-sheet disclosed a healthy state of the club’s finances, there being a credit balance of £0 Its Cd, The report, which was submitted by the secretary, Mr. 0. Tabor, was adopted. It characterised the past season as successful as regarded sport, and fairly satisfactory from a financial point of , view. In this connection the report pointed out that had the season opened earlier, so that another sports meeting could have been held, tho finances would undoubtedly have been in a better condition. Of the, two 'swimming carnivals lipid during the season, the first was entirely satisfactory from every point of view, but the second, owing to tho inclemency of the weather, was somewhat disappointing. At beginning of the season, tho lames’ swimming dub bad amalgamated with the dub. considerably augmenting tho membership, which now stands at 130. During tho season a number of West End school children had been put through their distance swimming, the ma.ioritv pur,sine tho test. Children attending tbo local schools had been given an afternoon's sport, which was' .-reatlv appreciated bv both parents and children. Tho Williams’ memorial medal was won by Archie Bacon, who swam excellently in all tho contests. This year, weather permitting, it is intended to open the season earlier, so. as to allow of'an additional sports meet-, ing. Tbo committee trusted that its efforts during the past season had met with the approval of the dub, and that the coming season would bo oven more successful than the past. The election of officers resulted as follows-.—President, Mr. W. J. Williams ; vice-presidents, Messrs.. H; Stocker, G. Tabor, .1. T. Mannix, W. L. Nowman and T. Furlong, pin.; dub captain, Mr. C. Brown; vice-captain, Mr. j. Slohr; bon. secretary, Mr. G. Tabor; lion, treasurer. Mr. H. Stocker; lion, auditor, Mr. K. Webster; committee, Misses Tiplady. L. Mouat. D. Hawke and Messrs. 0. Bacon, B. Paul, W. Hawkins. W. Whitaker and A. Thompson, with power to add: delegate to Wanganui centre of R.L.S.S., Mr. Turnbull. Mr. W. Lints was reelected club captain, and the meeting accorded him a very hearty vote of thanks for his valuable services. His Worship tho Mayor (Mr. G. W. Browne), in the absence of tho president. Mr. W. J. Williams, presented the Williams’ memorial gold medal to' Air. A. Bacon. The medal was for the greatest number of points scored during tho season in a series of races. Mr. Browne referred to the good work being done by tho dub, and he said ho was always’willin' l, to assist such a worthy cause. Ho hoped that the medal would alwavs remind the recipient of his friendship with members of the The announcement that Mr. Williams had presented for the ensuing season another modal to bo won. under the same conditions was greeted with applause, and a hoartv vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Williams. Special mention was made of tho valuable services that had been rendered the dub by Mr. and Mrs. Morris. tho custodians of tho Municipal Baths. The Borough Council had granted tho dub the use of tho baths for two nights a week in the season, and Mr. and Mrs. Morris, who might have been elsewhere enjoying themselves, always wero present to' assist the dub. Mrs. Morns, in replv, said that both Mr. Morris and herself’ would lie only too pleased to help the club during tho coining BC When electing the secretary, kindly remarks were made of Mr. Tabor’s labour during tho last season. At the time Air. Tabor was elected in 1912, tho finances of tho club were none -too sound, but they were now in a flourishing condition.
