The Mayor, Mr. Gaynor, died of heart failure aboard the Baltic in raid-ocean, according to a wireless message from his son Rufus, who was- also aboard. Sir. Gaynor had recently accepted independent nomination for the SlayorMty against the Tammany candidate, Mr. Gaynor having refused to accept Tammany dictation during recent years.
