THE TRANSVAAL STRIKE.
THE MINERS’ DEMANDS. BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT. JOHANNESBURG, July 20. The majority are hopeful of a compromise in connection with the Federation of Trades Unions’ demands, but the employers regard the miners’ demands as wholly impracticable and ruinous. It is believed that if the Government is able to satisfy the railwayman the miners will hesitate to strike, provided that their demands, are considered by the lately-announced Commission of Inquiry. If, , however, the raiiwaymen and minors reject this method and demand immediate satisfaction of their claims, the Government must-face a calamitous general strike and other troubles.
