EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING, The following was tho remaining business at tho monthly meeting of tho Education Board on Wednesday (which did not appear in Wednesday’s paper): GENERAL. Mr. 6. A. Adlam reported in reference to a site for a school at Te Korn that Mr. G. Collins had a suitable site, and satisfactory arrangements could ho made with him. Those, ho recomm ended tho board to accept, and also suggested that-the school bo called tho Patua School. —Adopted. It was report-oil that tho following additional school committees had 'been elected; —Ihaia: Messrs. O. Knofftock (chairman), F. Carter, F. Martin, E. C. Hanlon and J. Smith (secretary). Waingongoro: Messrs. A. David (chairman), H. Woulfo, Haylock, Morrisey, and E. O’Sullivan.—Confirmed. A copy of tho Waingongoro school district boundaries, determined at the householders’ meeting in tho Cardiff School, will be forwarded. to the committees interested. A copy of tho boundaries devised at a meeting of householders at Ihaia will also bo forwarded to tho committees interested lor any remarks they may wish to make. A resolution was passed thanking the Borough Council for its grant of £25 towards the funds of tho Technical College. . . ■ It was resolved that tho petition proving for a school at Spotswcod be referred to the Chief Inspector to inquire into and report on. The application of Mr. "W. H. Fenwick to transfer tho sections at Waipuku, hold by him on loose from tho board, to Mr. J. Craig for tho remainder of the term of the lease was granted. Tho following teachers were granted leave of absence:—Miss M. Mount (solo teacher), Uruti; Mrs. Wintlir'p (solo teacher), Matan; Miss Franklyn (assistant), Ratr.piko; Mrs. Dowling (head teacher), West End; Miss Jomison (assistant), Huiakama; Mrs. Richmond (assistant), Stanley; Miss Ballard (assistant), Bird; Mrs. Broreton (sole teacher), Geo. The duration of leave granted was from one week to two months. Tho overseer (Mr. 0. H. Moore) reported that in reference to the application for a porch at Mt. Messenger, a porch was shown on tho plan sent to the settlors and evidently ‘this was omitted when building the temporary school. Perhaps the committee would find tho labour for’a small porch; material and cartage for a porch about 8 by 6 wonld cost £9 without lining. The overseer also reported that paint work and sundry repairs at the Education Office 'and Technical College were receiving attention. Tho following appointments on school committees wore confirmed:—Frankley Road: Messrs. I'. Lee and W. B. Leighton, in place of Messrs. 6. Bendall and W. Eva. There was considerable discussion on the question of enlarging tho playground at Stratford. It was resolved that the matter ho again brought under tho notice of the department. Mr. M'Millan’s tender of 3s per acre per annum for a seven years’ lease of the Pufiiwhakau School site was accepted. Tho Waihi School Committee was authorised to procure 500 clcagnus hedge plants for their school grounds. ■ The Fitzroy School Committee will bo informed that tho board, will pay over tho/snbsidy when it is certain that the work o‘f erecting the shelter shed has been completed in a satisfactory manner. Tho Opunako School Committee will be informed that tho board will supply the material for the work required to ho done, providing that the committee find the labour. The hoard’s grants and subsidies passed at the June meeting, 1912, will bo paid tho Ilnhotu School Committee provided that Mr. Young is satisfied that the work has been properly done. The question of providing a new window at Frankley Rond was referred to the inspector for his report. Tho following matters were referred to the overseer;—Hillsborough, new tank for teacher’s residence; Cardiff, supply new curtains; Ngaere, lavatories; Mt. Messenger, now porch; Ratapiko, ont-office to be moved. Tho sum of £4 was granted the Tatairamaka School Committee towards trimming the trees along tho road frontage of the school grounds. Accounts amounting to £3OBI 19s lid were passed for payment.
