CONVICTION QUASHED.

BY SUPREME COURT JUDGE. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, June 26. The Appeal by Colin Gerald, a well known farmer, against his conviction by the Magistrate for stealing a motor tyre and other articles, was uphold by Justice Sir J. Williams. The defence was that accused was at homo .some miles away on the night of the robbery. His Honour said that additional evidence in support of this was adduced and a much stronger case made out than before the Magistrate. Two independent witnesses testified to having met accused at his home on the pight of the robbery, and if the Court disregarded their evidence he would have to nnd that they had conspired to defeat justice by swearing falsely.
