WEST COAST COAL.
BEQUEST OF SYDNEY SYNDICATE. Per Press Association. WESTPORT, June 25. A large and representative meeting in the Town Hall to-night decided to urge the Minister 'to grant a Sydney syndicate a right over coal-bearing land adjoining the Westport Coal Company’s Denniston area, from which by ministerial permit the Westport Goal Company has been taking coal. There is stated to be a lower scam of coal on this particular area, and it is the Sydney syndicate’s intentions, if rights applied for are granted them, to work it, in conjunction with other real measures in the Cascade Valley, by a tramway which would run down the valley and connect with the Buller Gorge railway. They anticipate being able on 8-hour shifts ,to produce 2,500 tons of coal daily on three shifts. It was decided also to urge the Minister of Public Works to speed up the construction of the Buller Gorge railway, as the revenue from the whole source alono would ensure a handsome profit on its working. Messrs. F. F. Mnnro and H. Gillen were appointed to proceed to Wellington to lay tho views of the meeting before the Ministry, also the matter of boring on the Seddonville State area, with a view to opening up further coal measures.
