Mr. 6. A. Fan-bairn, of Melbourne, has been awarded his cricket blue at Cambridge University. At the meeting of the Taranaki Education Board on Wednesday the follow-.: ing resignations were accepted Miss L. A. Rookes, assistant at Rahotu; Miss G. M. Seed, sewing-teachor at Douglas; Mrs. H. Foreman, sewingteacher at Okan; Mrs. Richmond, assistant at Stanley, The London Times reports that Dr. Kenneth Mackenzie, eldest son of the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie, High Commissioner for New Zealand, and Mrs. Mackenzie, was married on April 28 to Flora, daughter of the Rev. James A. Macdonald, at Restalrig Church, Edinburgh. Mr. Michel, the Government candidate for the Grey seat, rendered vacant owing to the death of Sir Arthur Guinness, has what must be almost a record of service on local and other public bodies. Mr. Michel Was Mayor of Hokitika for sixteen years, a member of the Borough Council for twentyfive years, captain of the Fire Brigade for twenty-seven years, chairman of the .Fire Board, chairman of the Westland Board of Education, chairman of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, chairman.of the High School Board, chairman of the School Commissioners, member and chairman of the Harbour Board, member of the Groymouth Harbour Board, trustee of the Savings Bank, Justice of the Peace for twentyfive years, president of the Jfew Zealand Fire Brigades’ Association, besides taking a great interest in several other forms of public activity.
