Air. Speight, Geologist, of Otago University College, has just completed an inspection of the Mangaone oilfields, and gives a very encouraging report. Mr. Speight stated that the indications are exceedingly promising, and are very similar to those of the Taranaki wella "at thdssame stage of boring. There is the strongest evidence of petroleum, but it is doubtful if oil will bo really struck until the bore reaches 2300 tecc. Air. Speight also spoke very well of the work done by the experts.
