HUNTING.

NORTH TARANAKI HOUNDS. The members of the North Taranaki Hunt assembled in town on Thursday morning, and at 12 o’clock were entertained to luncheon at the Criterion Hotel by Messrs. B. H. Chaney and A.' R. Standisb.' Subsequently the hosts were thanked on behalf of the Hunt by the Master (Mr.. A. H. Halcombs), and at 1 o’clock the members left town for Omata, headed by the huntsman and pack, and later threw off on Mr. R. Clemow’s property. Almost immediately the hounds wore in full cry, bunny heading away towards the beach, over some capital country, on which several good fences had to bo negotiated. The hare doubled back, and was leading its pursuers over al-„ most the same course, but was overtaken by the pack in a turnip patch. Hares were fairly numerous, and there were several other short runs, but only one other kill was registered. An unfortunate accident happened to Mr, G. Foreman’s well-known mount,, I’Barney,” who" stood off too far in taking a fence, and landed on the top wire. As a result the horse was taken into town with a. ruptured kidney. It was attended to by Mr. Mason, the clubs honorary veterinary-surgeon, and is doing as well as can be expected. Early in the afternoon rain set in, and it became necessary to adjourn to the homestead, where the members of he Hunt wore most hospitably entertained by Mrs. Clemow. Mr. Halcombo took the opportunity of thanking Mrs. Clemow for entertaining the Hunt and the surrounding farmers for the use of their properties. In the evening the members of the Hunt were the guests of the residents of the district at a dance in the Omata Hall. The function was largely attended, and proved; most enjoyable. -
