HOCKEY.

TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. Tlie annual meeting of the Taranaki Hockey Association, which was called for Thursday evening in the Town Hall, New Plymouth, lapsed lor the want of a quorum. There wore present; Messrs. B. Kemp (Hawera), E. J. Harris (Inglewood), S. J. Bennett (Kaponga), and the hon. secretary, Mr. ,J. E. Avery. The three clubs represented are really the only ones now affiliated to the association, but as the rules provide that five shall form a quorum it became impossible to hold the meeting. The prospects for the season in Taranaki must bo considered fairly bright, although the northern division is _as usual behind the times. Both the New Plymouth and Waitara Clubs are defunct, although here there is a possibility of two Saturday clubs becoming affiliated, and probably a like move will bo made at Waitara, Inglewood can 'depend on one strong Thursday team, and if the other Saturday clubs get going, possibly one or two Saturday elevens. Stratford, too, might be able to muster sufficient for one team. Kaponga will again have two Thursday teams playing, and Hawera two Wednesday elevens. Patea has a learn, and efforts are being made to induce Waverloy to enter the ring, and so form a Wednesday division in South Taranaki. Tataraimaka last year had plenty of material, and it is on the cards that enthusiasts at Okato will form a club. The adjourned meeting of the association will bo held on Monday week, when it is hoped something more definite will have been arrived at and the season commenced in a proper manner. Like football, hockey has suffered to a large extent by the failure to carry the Saturday half-holiday, but the followers of the ancient game are keen and hopeful of the best and expect to have a successful year. At this week’s meeting of the Wanganui Association it was decided to sopd the A senior reps, and the ladies' reps, to Hawera to play Taranaki on June 3. On that date the Taranaki ladies intend holding a tournament in the Recreation Grounds, so that the date is hardly suitable. Hawera also is a poor supporting town from a “gate” point of view, and it is likely that the match will bo set down for Inglewood if suitable arrangements can be made. SATUR DAY. PLAYERS. A meeting of Saturday hockey players was called for Thursday evening. There was not a very large attendance, and it was decided to postpone the meeting until after the practice of Saturday players on the racecourse tomorrow at 2.30. There is a strong likelihood of a Saturday competition being inaugurated under the auspices of the Taranaki Hockey Association. There will possibly lie teams from Tataraimaka, Waitara and Inglewood, wliile New Plymouth may have two teams, East and West, in place of the Egmont and St. Mary’s Clubs. The whole matter will bo discussed at to-morrow’s meeting. The following is the Whakabika hockey team for the friendly match against the High School in the Recreation Grounds on Saturday (play to be gin at 3 p.m.) -.—Forwards, E. Johnston, L. Mount, M. M'Ewpn, E. Monteath, M. Stohr; halves, M. Arthur, 0. Blanchard, H. Rollo; backs, A. Cocker, E. Andrews; goal, M, Corkill. Emergency, F. .Winfield. High School will bo represented by. Forwards, G. Mouat, I. Whitaker, R. Whitton (captain), I. O’Brien, A. Warren ; centre-half, Mona Corkill; halfbacks, H. Rockell and C. Penn; fullbacks, M. Okoy and K. King; goal, Amy Harle.
