TONGAPORUTU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

April 30. —The meeting for the purpose of electing a school committee for the ensuing year was held','oh Monday night last, hut proved a failure, only live householders putting in an appearance, the chairman, and two members of the did committee being part of that number. With one exception; the- members of the old committee declined to he nominated again, and there being 'only two hbnsholders. present willing to act’on the committee, tho meeting had to close without any business- dicing done; a very unsatisfactory state of af-, fairs. .

A polling booth was open here today (Wednesday) in-connection with the Waitara-Harbour Board, but very little interest is taken here on the-mat-ter; in fact, no one .heredeems to know what qualification is required-to entitle any one to vote on thei subject, and all are totally in .tho dark as to'tho boundary line of the Waitara Harbour District, but it is certain it must be full of angles, for it seems to hit up against one settler .and give him a vote, and then turn short off to miss another one fifty yards away, continuing its erratic course over all the lower river part of the district, catching one man and missing another. An - explanation would bo read with great interest.
