THE HOSPITAL BOARD.
It was only fitting that the burgesses should recognise , tho excellent selfdenying work done by Mr. F. C. J. BoHringer as chairman of tho Hospital, and Charitable Aid Board by placing him at tho head of the poll on Wednesday. As Mr. Brown© pointed out, too, it is only right that tire Borongh Council, which has to contribute largely to tho funds of the board, should be directly represented, and the burgesses recognnised this and re-elected him to his old position. Mr. Outfield had to give way to Mrs. Dockrill, for which we are rather sorry, because, though not a very assertive member of the board, Mr.” Outfield really did excellent service and brought a sound judgment to bear upon the business. While doubting the wisdom of placing a lady on tho board, if there is to be one there we could not wish hor to be other than Airs. Dockrill,'whoso sound common sense and tactful disposition will enable her, wo hope, to steor clear- of tho pitfalls which might await a leas capable and tactful woman. There aro many matters in which a woman’s advice and experience may bo useful to tlie board, and Mrs. Dockrill has for many years prist shown a constant readiness to place such seri’ico its she could i-euder at the disposal of hor fellow citizens. Mr. Gilraour received a Largo measure of support, but was opposing throe exceptionally strong candidates in tho ' three who were elected.
