Kirkland, editor and proprietor of the Northern Territory Times, has been fined £IOO on charges of tv riling scandal about a judge and prejudicing the public in a case still pending. Kirkland refused to pay the fine and was sent to prison. A public subscription was started to realise the amount required to secure his release.
