Mr. Charles Sole, of Oaonui, who purchased the cow Almond 39th (H.B. No. 1626) at the recent Bushy Park Hereford sale received word this morning that the animal was taken suddenly ill after the sale and that despite expert ' attention it died yesterday morning. Almond was of a strain that Mr. Sols particularly required and he paid 55 guineas for her. Members of the Royal Commission on Forestry left by motor cars this morning on a visit of inspection to different reserves in this district. The Meeting of the Waters at Mangorei, and a reserve on the banks of the Mangonui stream, on the Everett and Bristol roads were to have been visited, and lunch was to have been served at the North Egmont Mountain Hostelry. The Commissioners will return to New Plymouth this evening and bold a sitting in the Council Chambers to-mor-row morning at 10 o’clock. In order to avoid any misunderstanding in connection with the judging of the district farm products competition at the forthcoming Winter Show the following scale of points has been fixed by the committee of the Agricultural Society:—Arrangement and effect, 25; dairy produce, 25; roots and fodder, 25; grain and grasses, 10; game and poultry, 10; hams and bacon, ID; jams and jellies, 10; sauce and pickles, 5; varieties of timber, 5; bread, cakes and sweets, 10; any novelty in new farm products, 5; fruit and vegetables, 10; honey, 5; preserved fruit and wines, 10; home industries, 10; miscellaneous, 10; total, 185.
