FOOTBALL.

SOUTH TARANAKI REFEREES,

The annual meeting of the southern branch ,of the Taranaki Referees’ Association was held in the office of Messrs. Welsh, M'Carthy,. and O’Hea on Friday evening. The president (’Mr. A. Lees) occupied the Chair over only a small attendance. An apology was received from Mr. S. Forsyth, PihamiL 'i- ’ The secretary’(Mu P./O’Dea),* in his annual report, said the .’’subscriptions from members continued to be sufficient to pay the working expenses for’ the year. The credit balance for the season was 9s. The association managed to fulfil all its engagements for the season, i but the attendance qf ’members at meetings was very disappointing. It was thought that by holding the meetings at Okaiawa larger meetings would have been obtained, hut this did not prove to be the ease. It was to he hoped that clubs would urge upon all old players to join the association and continue their interest in the nationalgame. The President, in moving the adoption cf the report, said if old players would join the association it would do a lot to further interest im the game and in the association. .Mr. J. Kilcy , seconded the motion, which was carried. - Mr. D.'Ryan was elected a new mem-’ her. . , ■ ‘ T ,

Mr. A. Lees was re-elected president'.' •Messrs. A. Hunter, W. Cooper, and W. A’Court were appointed an executive, with the officers, ex-dfficio. Mr. O’Doa said he'would like to, bo relieved of the secretaryship, and' Mr. I). Ryan consented to fill the breach. Messrs. Mason (Opunake), Leas (Okaiawa), and Hunter (Hawcra) were; appointed an examining committee. 'l'he president and secretary were appointed delegates to the Taranaki Referees’ Association. ...; t ' Tile President paid a tribute to the retiting secretary, and on his proposition, seconded by Mr. Iviley, a liearty vote of thanks was atcorded him for his services.

Mr. O’Dea thanked the Wanch for its vote of appreciation and said he thought that •in Mr. Ryan the association would have a very good secretary. ,■ A vote of thanks was accorded to the Hawera Star (from which this .report is taken) for the manner in which the association’s meetings and the football matches, had been reported.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION

The annual general meeting of the Taranaki Primary Schools Rtiftby Foot-, ball Association was held an Saturday. Mr, Stratford, of Inglewood, was elected president and Messrs. Johnson and Gray vice-presidents. Mr. E. Bary woi 1 elected secretary and treasurer., The committee now consists■ of Messrs,. Thomas, Bertrand, Day, Cutler, anu M’llroy. Tho Now Plymouth High School asked permission to enter a team from the primary department of the school. - The association decided,to inform tho union that,' after carefully considering its suggestion with regard to- the competition , tho management committee considered the jp-oposol impracticable, and suggested that the New Plymouth district should comprise Central,’ .West End, Fitzroy*, ■ and High School.-Pre-paratory , and that the Stratford district consist of Stratford, Inglewood, and Waitara, the winner of the Now Plymouth section to travel and play, off with the winner of tho Stratford section. It was also resolved to ask the union to accept the Pitman -Cup from Inglewood for the champion team of the province. m THE FIXTURES. .

A second round will be played, commencing on June 17 and continued on Juno 21 and June 28, reverse grounds.
