CARD PLAYING.

NEW PLYMOUTH ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The aniu..J meeting of the New Plyj month Cards Association was held at tho Central Fire Brigade Station on Monday evening. Mr. E. Whittle (representing the East End Card Club) was in- the chair, and other delegates present were; Messrs. J. Bennett (Avenue Read), H. Inch (Fire Brigade), Robert Solo (St. Anbyn), and T. Hood (hon. secretary). The fourth annual report congratulated members on a successful year. Although fewer clubs took part in the competition, still the interest shown and the standard of play were quite equal to those in previous years. The championship fell to tho newly-formed St. Anbyn Club, who annexed the Hayden Champion Aggregate Shield, the Tisch Cribbago Shield, and were beaten only in the play-off by Avonue Road for tho Malone Euchre Shield. The St. Anbyn team were not defeated in a single match for tho Aggregate Champion Shield, only one draw' being registered against them for tho Cribbago Shield, and tw'o losses and two draws for the Euchre Shield. The runners-up for the Aggregate Champio'n Shield were the previous year's champions, Firo Brigade, who were only beaten twice by St. Anbyn, and who had one draw registered against them. The Euchre Shield was won by Avenue Road after an exciting play-off with St. Aubyn.

The balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory credit balance of £2 10s lid, and was adopted, together with the report. ' The election of officers for the ensiling year resulted:—President, Mr. 0. W. Browne; vice-presidents, Messrs. F. Richards, E. Whittle, H. Gilbert. R. Cock. H. Okey, M.P., F. C. J. Bellringer, IV. C. Weston, J. Smith, J. Haydon and E. King; hon, auditor, Mr. A. Leo; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. Hood. ‘ It was decided that nominations for the competitions close on May 10.

Tho nomination fee was fixed at 10s per team. Tho next meeting of delegates to the association will bo held on May 12 to arrange tho opening of the season and to decide the fixtures.

Mr. E. Whittle gave notice of motion “that the system of scoring be changed from that of games to tables.” It was made a recommendation to the incoming committee to notify tho competing teams that during the coming season the. final hand must be , played out.

. It was decided'that, at .the completion of the competitions the association should arrange a social and that the shields won during the season should be presented at that social. ' ' ■ . A vote of sympathy was passed with -Mr. and Mrs. Sb Richards in the loss'of their son, Mr. IV. E. Richards. Votes of thanks to tho chairman, and to the Fire Brigade for the use'of the room, concluded the meeting.- ■
