Williams, of the local telephone exchange, was on Monday presented by the members of the staff with a travelling rug to mark the occasion of his transfer to Wellington. Mr. G. Clinch made the presentation, and after -referring to Mr. Williams’ ability as an officer, expressed the sincere regret of himself and the other members of the staff at Mr. Williams’ departure. . ; ‘ On Friday evening last a social evening was tendered by Mrs. Dowling, headmistress of the West End School, to the members of the school committee and staff.,o Some ,of the members were accompanied ,by their wives. A very enjoyable evening was spent, and at the conclusion Mrs. Dowling was heartily thanked for her hospitality. The occasion was taken advantage of to make a presentation to Mr. H. J. Gilbert on his retirement from thejposition of chairman of. the committee. Mr I. Morrison, in making the presentation, a chiming clock, referred in eiilogistic terms to the great interest the late chairman had always taken in alb matters pertaining to the West End School. Mr. Gilbert suitably replied.
