ASSESSMENT COURT.
TO-DAY’S SESSION. Chew Chong; Tins case and others had been adjourned from yesterday, to enable Mr. A. H. Johnstone, who appeared for tho objectors, to confer with Mr. Mills. As a result of this conference, Mr. Johnstone said ho had been able to arrange tho following compromises: Section 1514, original variation £26, reduced by consent to £22; 1541, objection withdrawn; 1418, Devon Street, original valuation £65, reduced by consent tp £55; 1470, Courtenay Street, original valuation £3l reduced by consent to £26; 727, Duller Street, objection withdrawn. • In the case of Ellen Grey, which was adjourned from yesterday in order to obtain Mr. George Grey’s evidence, the latter said that tho house was 13 years old, and that all the improvements which he had effected did not amount to over £3O, and consisted of tho laying down of a tennis lawn and tarred footpaths. The orchard said to have been on tho place, ho said, actually belonged to bis neighbour. Reduced to £45. J. Ti. Quilliam. Mr. A. H. Johnstoia for tho objector. This property is situated at the corner of, Gill and Eliot Streets. Proposed valuation £B9. Deduced to £72. Rev. S. S. Osborne. Mr. A. H. Johnstone appeared for the objector. The piopcrty is situated in .Gilbert Street.' Proposed valuation £sl. Air. Corkill'valued tile property at £BSO. Air. Alills offered to compromise at £45, but Air. Osborne refused to accept his offer. Reduced to £45. William Nichols. Mr. A. H. John stone for the objector. Property situated iii Devon Street. Proposed valuation £SO. * Air. Nichols stated that tho house was in an uninhabitable condition, and that lie did not Jive in it. The last valuation was £22. Mr. Corkill said that thoro were no improvements; in fact, the building was a ruin, uninhabitable and insanitary, and should have been condemned longago. He valued tho land at about £6OO. Mr. Alills said that tho property next door had been sold for £IOOO. Ho acknowledged that the house wins in bad repair. Ho valued the section at £IOOO, His Worship said that he would examine the property before ho decided what course to take, and the case was adjourned.
