HOOKEY.

THE LADIES’ ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The adjourned annual meeting of the Taranaki Ladies’ Hockey Association was held in the Town Hall on .Saturday afternoon. The annual report submitted by the secretary (Miss Andrews) read: Financially ,wo have every reason to feel more than satisfied with our present potation. Despite our bankrupt state at the beginning of the season, we have ended the year with a balance of £lO 18s lOd. A perusal of the balance-sheet will show that our receipts totalled £42 15s 2d, a sum five times larger than in any previous year. This was mainly raised by the efforts of the individual clubs, and enabled thu association to pay out £22 10s towards the expenses of our representative team. With regard.to the Shield matches played during the season, in the northern division the Reform Club proved the best team, and in the southern division the Kapqnga Club, the latter winning the Shield in the play-off. Our representatives did not exactly cover themselves with glory, hut in a team composed mainly of'young and therefore inexperienced players that could hardly bo expected. and at all events we have the satisfaction of knowing that they played a sporting game throughout the tournament. It is to be hoped that the proposal re Saturday half-holiday will be adopted throughout the province, as that would undoubtedly give a great impetus to hockey in Taranaki. With reference to delegates, most of our affiliated clubs send a lady to represent them, and I would suggest that other duffs should adopt the same course. In moving the adoption of the report, Miss Arthur (Whakatika) paid a glowing tribute to the management committee of the association, and heartily congratulated them on the financial position. Great credit was also due to them for their careful fostering of hockey throughout the province, a care which had resulted in a far more active interest being taken -in the association than had formerly been evinced.—The motion was seconded by Miss Lye (Ngatimaru) and carried by acclamation. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. C. K. Wilson, M.P.; president, Mr. George Tabor; vice-presidents, the presidents of affiliated clubs; secretary and treasurer, Mias Elsie Andrews (re-elected). Ityas decided that Miss Lye and the secretary should act as a fixture committee and that Shield matches should begin about the middle of May. A bylaw was also drawn up to the effect that, except in the case of a, severe storm, no team shall be allowed to postpone a match from tho date decided by the fixture committee. M*s Andrews proposed that a ladies’ hockey tournament (seven-a-side) be field in New Plymouth on the King’s Birthday.—This was seconded by Miss Lye and carried unanimously. All arrangements will be left in the hands of a committee- to be drawn from the Whakatika and High School Clubs.
