WELLINGTON RACING GLOB. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 15. r The stewards of the Wellington Racing Club have decided to increase the stakes offered at tho winter meeting bv £4OO. They havo also resolved to restore tho St. Loger Stakes on the autumn programme. STRATFORD RACING CLUB. IMPROVEMENTS TO THE PROPERTY. Tho Stratford Racing Club has commenced improving the access to tho grandstands and lawn from the Pembroke Road (says tho Post). A wide carriage roadway is to bo constructed, with provision for a double lipe of vehicles, and a properly kerbed footpath for pedestrians will adjoin the carriage-way. Both road and footpath will bo constructed in a permanent manner and will bo properly metalled. The present foot-bridgo will be replaced -by a large filling - with concrete culverts where required. The new means of access will run along tho ■ western boundary of the club’s property right to tho outside paddock and will, no doubt, bo a great,boon to patrons, both shortening the present distance to bo traversed and making a road which will present no terrors to drivers and chauffeurs. A start on the work was made on Friday, the first item being tbo falling of some of tho trees standing on tlie sito of tho road. The work is under tho control of Messrs. Robinson ■and Christophers, and Mr. P. Hancock, late foreman for tho Stratford County Council, has the direct supervision of those engaged.
