NOTES BY RAMBLER.

Urenui, Dee. 21, —The school concert which has' been in' preparation fpr, the: past few weeks took' place on, Thursday night,, and, being a, fine night, the hall was crowded. There was uo' standingroom, and between £lO. and £,ll. was taken at the door. The stage was,beautifully decorated; with ferns, flowers, and flags, and the children as they did each part were shown to tho best advantage,. Mr. Pope, the headmaster, Mr. Arthur, his assistant, and staff must be complimented on the . satisfactory showing ■ the children piaCe. ..Tho minstrels, especially, you could have listened, to for hours. 1 " The,ir performance would have done credit to grown-up people. Miss Young, a talent-, ed„young lady staying hero from Wellington, who is a, niece of Mr. Walter Jenkins, of; Waitara, gave two songs, and each time was encored. This lady has an exceptionally fine voice, and it was a pleasure to listen to her. After the concert the children ‘.were treated to, a fine supper, including a largo cake made by Baker M'Lonnan, containing several pounds of threepenny pieces, which were, eagerly sought after. A Manco concluded an enjoyable day’s outing for-both young and old. ■ One. of Mr: Gibbs’ little boys, while flying through a window to avoid tho “rod,” had his arm dislocated, a;id Dr. Ramage was soon on the spot and fixed it up again. ’ Host Langley, of the Urenui Hotel, .is having a busy time, and I am sorry to say his health is not as good as it might be, but wo hope to see him fixed up again before long. Mr.’Pope and family have flown tp Auckland for # the holidays, leaving by boht on Saturday night.
