At the inquiry extracts were read Check Inspector Gadd’s report urging the serious need of a second exit from the North Lyell mine. Symons, one of those rescued from the 1000 ft. level, said there were no ladder ways from there excepting the winze. If t,he travelling ways had been open and the men instructed to. use them more would have been saved.
