Professor Ernest Rutherford, of Manchester University, has been elected- a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in Vienna. Jessop, the Gloucestershire cricketer, who hits with'such freedom, has joined the Leeds Clergy School, preparatory to taking orders. .. Mr. M. Fraser and his son Gordon leave by train to-morrow to catch the Wand boat for Tahiti on a holiday trip. They will probably bo away five or six weeks.
The King has Approved the retention of the title of “Honourable” by Sir James Carroll,l K.C.M.G., Mr. J, A. Millar, Mr. Roderick M'Kenzie, Mr. David Buddo, and Mr. Apiran'a Turapa Ngata, all of whom have served for more; than three years as membere of the Executive Council of the Dominion, of New Zealand..
At the Hospital Board meeting today a vote or condolence and sympathy was passed, by the board with the widow and relatives of the late Government Auditor, Mr. R. A. Gray, who met his death recently in so tragic a manner. The chairman (Mr. F. O. J. Bellringer) remarked that all who came in contact with the late Mr. Gray appreciated the conscientious manner in which he carried out his duties.
Particulars of the fatality by which; Dr. Hudson, of Tapawera, Nelson, lost his life are given in the Nelson papers. He was descending a steep hill, known as Spooner’s Range,: in a- motor car r He was accompanied by his .daughter, and when negotiating a corner halfway down the hill, the wheels of the car skidded,- and it went over the bank. The car overturned and both the occupants were thrown but. Dr. Hudson struck his head-against a boulder, fracturing his skull, and was killed instantaneously. Miss Hudson escaped unhurt. I’he bank where the car went over was not very steep, the car not being more than 15ft. from the road. The deceased gentleman had practised in England and South Africa, and was • formerly district health officer for Nelson and Marlborough.
