THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.
PROBABLY MB. T. MACKENZIE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, July 12. I understand on good authority that Mr. T. Mackenzie, who led the late Cabinet, will be appointed to the position of High Commissioner for New Zealand in London. An official announcement will not be made until Monday, and 1 think it will confirm the statement made in the previous sentence.
Mr. Mackenzie is well qualified to fill such a position. Hb has occupied the positions of Minister for Industries and Commerce and Minister for Agriculture; he has also had charge of the Tourist Department.' Tho experience he gained while holding these offices will be of great value to him in bis capacity as High Commissioner, Mr. Mackenzie ,represented Clutha from 1887 to 1896; in 1888 sented New Zealand in the centennial celebrations in Sydney, and in 1889 was appointed traeje commissioner to Great Britain. From 1896 to 189© slr, Mackenzie was London representative of several New Zealand agencies, but in the following year he returned to New Zealand and again entered Parliament. 1 . , ; , ■;
