RAILWAY APPEAL.

AN OFFICER REDUCED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 11. The Railway Appeal Board to-night considered the case of Thomas Henry Stubbs, relieving officer for the Auckland district, who appealed against his dismissal. Appellant was acting stationmaster at Taupiri on May H, and the points were left open, with the result that the engine and three waggons were derailed. Dr. M‘Arthur, S.M. (president of the board), considered that Stubbs was responsible as officer in charge of the station, but was not satisfied that the punishment was, commensurate with the offence. The board considered that the case would be met by reducing appellant pne grade (from grade eight to grade nine). They recognised that- he was a capable officer.
