TARANAKI v. WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, June 4. Mr. Meredith, the sole selector, has announced the following Rugby team to play against Taranaki at Hawc-ra on Juno 112: —J. Ryan, \onn.g, Manning, Murray, MTvcnzio, Ramsdeii, E. Roberts, Skinner, Eliott, Hills. H. Paton, H. Baton, Moffatt, A. "Wilson, MacFarlane, and E. Roberts. Eltham arc not observing the Thursday holiday this week, so the match between their juniors and Clifton will not take place this week. '\ he High School were expecting to play Clifton yesterday. but through a misunderstanding the match did not come oft, as Clilton did not come in. The match was not officially fixed for the date in question, and it is hoped that it will take place on Thursday next. * MATCHES ELSEWHERE. The first round of the Auckland Rugby Union’s senior championship competition concluded yesterday. Rain set in ns mutches started, and play was carried out in a strong wind and heavy showers of rain. The games therefore were mere scrambles. City beat Parnell bv 0 jxiint i*. to nil; Marist Bros. Old Hoys defeated College Rifles by 6 to nil; and University drew with Ponsonby. 9 points each. City leads for the championship, one point ahead of Marist Bros.
At Dunedin in fine weather KaiUonu (9) beat Southern (3); University (24) beat Dunedin (ft): Alhambra (9) beat Union (8); Port Chalmers (5) boat Taieri Pavers M): Zingari-Kichmond (12) boat Pirates (0). The matches at Palmerston Xorth resulted as follows;—Eastern (9) boat Feilding (0) ; Southern (3) deleated Western (3); junior—Feilding beat Linton. Xo club matches were played at Wellington on account of the Territorial parade.
