The second day’s racing of the Otaki Maori Racing Club’s winter meeting was held to-day in fine but cold weather. The public attendance was good for an off dav, hut speculation was not brisk, and the total handled was nearly £2OOO less than on the, second day of last year. The racing was good and some little fancied runners triumphed, as well as some favourites. Though a high wind blew, the course continued ‘■holding,” and the times were decidedly slow. The following are the details of the racing;— Stewards’ Handicap, 7 furlongs.— Shuja 1, M aikeiui 2, Panthoa 3. Easy, Moiitoa Girl, Kina, Lambton, Arolcahou, Gordon Bell, and San Port also •started. Kina and Easy were prominent in the early stages, hut Kina hurst a blood vessel and was pulled up. Easy, I hard ridden, ran fourth, well behind ’ the placed horses. Time. Imln. 345 sec. Railway Handicap, G furlongs.— Bootle T Mon Ami 2, Allurement 3. Hermia, Makara, Sir Frisco, Mira, Piri-wai,-Deploy, Parawamii and Lady Fran also started. The placed horses showed out a furlong from home, and Bootle was never troubled, though iMon Ami finished resolutely and faster than anything else. Time, Imin. 20tscc. Olinu Hack-Welter, 1 mile. —Blend 1, Kilrain 2 ,Strategist 3. Brown Trout, Foreshot, ami Royal Maid also started. ’The placed horses led all the way, and Blend swung into the straight with a two lengths’ lead. Kilrain, under pressure, ran the winner to a head, but Strategist was well beaten. Time, 1 min. 49?scc.
Final Hack Scurry, 5 furlongs.—War Queen 1, Lady Louisa 2, Miss Jean 3. Frccher, Shady Girl, Facsimile, Invicta, Black Lupin, Abercoed, Borsil, Stockade, Biddy, AVaiwotu, and Peggy also started. The winner was first away and was never headed. Time, Imin. 7?sec.
