HUIRANGI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) June 3.—At the last euchre party eleven tables "ere occupied. Miss I. Turnbull won the ladies’ prize (a glass jug). Mr. Andrew Turnbull won the men’s (a card box). After supper, the usual dame was held. ‘ On Tuesday last a basket social was held in the hall to provide funds tor renovating the hall piano. The attendance was large, and the pillowing contributed to the programme: Pianoforte duet, Mrs. M'Niece and Mrs. Uusseli ; song, Mrs. Roberts; song, “Nobody Else.” Mrs. Hoby ; comic song, “Conversazione,” Mr. Valter Matthews; song. “Molly,” Mr. V. J. Smith; song, Miss Badley; song, “Simon the Cellarer,” Mr. Brown; soing Mrs. Roberts; song. “I’ni Going to Marry Jim.” -Mr. U. Giddy; pianoforte duet. Mrs. Hoby and Miss Yeates. At the conclusion of the concert the baskets were put up to auction by Mr. Matthews, of Inglewood. Most of I hem were nicely decorated, and commanded good prices; the highest price obtained wa.s ton shillings. All were well eoin|K'te<l ior, and Mr. Matthews must he complimented for the manner in w'hieh hi* conducted the sale. At the conclusion the singing of the National Anthem brought a very successful evening to a close. Mr. .T. II Smith thanked all who had assisted to the success of Iho evening, after which supper was banded round. The listed dance followed, the floor being filled to its full rapacity, and the music was supplied by Batchelor’s Orchestra, from Waitara. which was pronounced to be first-class. Mr. S. Sarten acted as M.C. At the conclusion at 1.30 a.m. the orchestra was accorded a hearty vote ot (hanks. Mr H. I’nrdie. of M aitara Road, has ilist brought down from Auckland several pedigree Jersey cows, and with others intends establishing a pedigree herd. I wish him every success. He has also sold part of his farm to Mr. Hill at C3O an acre. Miss Mend has arrived to take sole charge of nnr school ns from June 1. 4s" another householders’ meeting is to‘be held on June 24 to elect a school committee, it is to he hoped enough will turn to form a committee, instead of commissioners. On June 23 a concert is to be hold in the Ilniratigi Hall in aid of the Church of England funds: a good programme is being prepared, and a largo gathering is anticipated.
