Wheat.—The markets are inactive end slightly easier, owing to heavy shipments. An Australian cargo sold at 89s 7jd. Holders are asking 440 s 8d for South Australian January shipments; 39s 3d is being offered for April, and 40s for February Victorian and New South Wales shipment; 39s and 39s 6d is being asked lor parcels afloat. There is a retail demand for Australian spot at 42s 6d to 435: New Zealand 41s 4jd. Australian flour is sparingly offered. Siere is little demand for New Zeand. Oats.—Scarce and firm. La Plata May-June 18s. Peas.—Firm and unchanged. Beans.—Neglected ; nominally 37s 6d to 88s 6d. Cheese.—Very firm. New Zealand TOs to 71s. THE PRICE OF WHEAT. SYDNEY, May 10. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On Tuesday, 7th inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in conjunction with Messrs. W. H. H. Young and Co., when we had a small yarding of 650 cattle and 150 lambs. Store cows came forward in a greater number than usual. Prices were as follows: Store cows £32s to £3 17s, forward cows from £4 2s to £4 13s, fat cows £3 to £3 Bs, weaners (small) 23s 6d, weaner steers 30s 6d to 38s 6d, weaner heifers showing colour 35s to 45s 6d, 20-months heifers in calf £3 6s to £3 10s, 20months empty heifers 58s 6d, bulls £3 to £4 15s, lambs ss; a nice line of 16 well grown Shorthorn weaner heifers realised 39s to a local purchaser. During the week we have sold privately several liuesof cattle at the following prices:—Mixed Weaners £2 to £5 os, and £7 4s 6d for a nice line of 50 sold to Waikato buyers, 3-year-old steers £6, A herd of dairy cows £6 17s 6d.
