MELANESIAN MISSION.

AN ADMIRAL’S OPINION. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (Received May 11 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May j.O. The Melanesian Mission gave a farewell to the Rev. Mr. Wood, the new bishop. The Bishop of Waiapu was present. Admiral Fawkes said that except for such missions, little would be done to give Christian civilisation to the Pacific islands. He thought England, through the Navy, should do more to help, by preventing the sale of gin and arms to natives.
