BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.

MB. BEAUCHAMP’S RESIGNATION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May. 9. A statement in regard to nia resignation from the position of chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand was made by Mr. Harold Beauchamp to a Herald reporter this evening:— My reason for intimating to the Government my desire to be relieved of the position of chairman of the bank after the expiration of my last term, namely, on March 31, was solely on account ot mv health,” said Mr. Beauchamp. I wrote the Minister for Finance to that effect on February 6 last. Prior, however, to the receipt of my letter by at least a week, the Cabinet resolved not to reappoint me. This, no doubt, was due to the attitude I had always assumed as chairman of the bank. In. other words, I would not at any time let my own opinions be subservient to political exigencies. That is all I have to say in this connection at present.
