In the second innings of the Australians in the match against Notts, an official correction of the scores makes Carkoek’s total 18 and tho total of the innings 166. Riley’s average was six wickets for 00 runs. Wanting 213 to win, and with twelve runs on without loss, Jones and George Gunn faced M'Laren and Whitty. The weather was hot and tile wicket faster. The attendance was one thousand. With the score at 29 Haalitt relieved Whitty, and at 46 Minnett displaced M'Laren. Tho batting was excellent, though the score was composed chiefly of singles. M'Laren was no-b,ailed three times for .dragging over. Jones had made some fine cuts, while Gunn’s score was mainly made by on play. The half century was hoisted in 50 minutes. The bowlers were pitching the ball too far up, and the fielding was uneven. Matthews relieved Hazlitt at 65, Jones being then 47, made chiefly in singles. In Matthews’ third over, with tho total at 99, George Gunn, playing back, was bowled. Barring one stroke in the slips, his innings was faultless-, Gunn being particularly strong on the leg side. Seven runs later Jones was caught at second slip by Mayno. He played a masterly innings, lasting 95 minutes, and hit four fourers. The century had taken 90 minutes.
