Mr. A. T. Bate, of Wellington, is in town.
Mr. C. A. Wilkinson went North last night en route to America and Canada. He is accompanied by Miss Wilkinson.
Mr. and Mrs. J JL Connect were passengers for the North on AVednesday night en route for a month’s holiday visit to Rotorua.
The voting for tho election of one member to represent tho Otago University Senate resulted as follows: Dr. Marshall 91, Professor Gilrap 89, Professor AVhite 84, Dr. J. Alan Thomson 19.
The Hon. G. Laurenson and party arrived in Now Plymouth by motor from Stratford this morning. In tho afternoon the oil wells and Pukekura Park were visited. The Minister is to leave here at 4.30 this afternoon for Toko.
The Kon. A. M. Myers, Minister for Railways, Defence and Finance, went south from Wellington by the Maori last night, and will bo away for a week or ten days. He will visit Christchurch, limai'u, Dunedin, Invercargill and other towns on. departmental business, ohielly with regard to railway matters. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., was a passenger by the mail train from Wellington last night. He alighted at Stratford in order to attend the Hon. G. Baurenson’s meeting. Mr. Fisher will return to Wellington to-morrow, and the question of his replying to Mr. Laurenfiou will bo left in the hands of the local executive of the party.
A AVaipawa telegram reports that Mr. George E. Haggitt, manager of the local branch of tho Bank of Australasia for tho past six years who has been transferred to Feilding, was presented with a silver inkstand by tho tennis and golf clubs. He will return temporarily in a week or two, when ho will be presented with a piece or plate by the citizens. Mrs. Haggitt also received a presentation from the dramatic club.
The Nelson papers record the death of Mrs. Andrew Richmond, which took place there on Saturday evening after a long illness. She arrived in Nelson with her parents, Captain ami Mrs. Blundell, in 1851, on Christmas Day, and tho house they first lived in is still standing. In 1856 she married the late Mr. A. J. Richmond, son of the lato Major ' Richmond. She leaves three daughters—Mrs. Sclauders, Miss Richmond, Mrs. Kissling—and one son, Mr. F. H. Richmond.
