HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 6. Following is the High Commissioner’s cablegram, under date London, May 4. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot); Mutton.—The market is quiet but steady. Light weights continue scarce, and command a premium. Prices of Canterbury are not quoted officially, but the prices arc about the same as those of last week, viz., Canterbury 4Jd; North Island, light weights 3£d, heavy weights 3jd. Lamb.—The market is ver3 r firni, with general and active demand. Shipments are now clearing as soon as they arrive, and future prospects are good. Canterbury sgd, other than Canterbury s£d, River Plato s£d. Beef.—The market is firm with good demand; New Zealand hides 43d, fores 3|d. Butter.—The market is somewhat steadier. Choicest Now Zealand butter to-day is 110 s, Australian 106 s, Argentina 105 s, Danish 113 s, Siberian 106 s. Cheese.—Tho market is quiet, but rather steadier. New Zealand white 695, coloured 70s. Hemp.—The market is firmer, with more demand. Spot Now Zealand good fair per ton £2l 15s, fair £2O 10s, forward shipment at the same price. Fair current Manila spot £22, forward shipment £22 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 26,000 bales. Wheat, —The market is active, notwithstanding advices of heavy shipments. The nominal value of New Zealand longberried wheat ex granary, per quarter of 4961 b., is 38s, shortberried 375.

Oats.—The market is weaker, and the tendency downward, in anticipation of heavy arrivals. Peas.—The market is firmer. Nominally Now Zealand peas (partridge), per 5041 b., are selling at 375. Beans.—The market is steady, ryith moderate inquiry. Nominally New Zealand beans f.a.q. (old crop), per 5041 b., are at 39u. Mutton and Lamb.—The River Plate shipments received during April, 1012, were as follow: London, mutton 69,527 carcases, lamb 10,533 carcases; Liverpool, mutton 101,344, lamb 54,400; Hull, mutton 5500; Newcastle, mutton 14,919, lamb 1636; Southampton, mutton 14,960, lamb 1350; Cardiff, mutton 8316; Plymouth, mutton 1056, lamb 523; Ireland, mutton 1878; total, mutton' 217,500, lamb 68,442; April, 1911, mutton 229,854, lamb 86,702 Hops.—The market remains 'firm. , Wool.—The second series of wool Bales has closed. The market is strong, am! there is very large demand, especially for superior merino and strong crossbreds. Prospects are favourable. Seven thousand seven hundred bales of New Zealand wools are held over. Estimated values are; Superior merino Is to Is IJd per lb., medium 9Jd to llfd, inferior 7RI to Od, fine crossbreds (all grades) lid to Is lid, medium crossbreds BJd to lid, coarse crossbreds 7{d to IOJd. AUCKLAND SHAPE MARKET. (Special to Herald.) AUCKLAND. May 6. Mr. Hendry (E. P, Webster local agent) reports the following Stock Exchange quotations and sales:— Quotations. —May Queen sellers Is 3d buyers Is Id, Occidental Is; od and Is 4d, Saxon 8d and 6d, Waiotahi 2s lOd and 2s Bd, Waitangi Is Id and lljd, Talisman 44s 6d and 445, Waihi 40s 6d and 40s, Junction 25s 9d and 25s 6d, New Zealand Insurance 98s 6d sellers.
